One Trick At a Time
At the moment, this baseball hitting robot is marvelous. Amazing it works at all, though it needs to swing harder. In a few years, it will seem as obvious and boring as a wheel, as better models come up to the plate. Really smart, capable robots will not appear in a flash. They will creep upon us one tiny trick at a time.

Get a big roomba to pick up balls in the field and ship them back to the pitcher. Let the game continue for days.
A very big robotics project is Robo-Soccer. The goal is to have a team of humanoids beat the World Cup winners by 2050. I’m sure they’ll make it.
