Street Use

Street Food Contraptions

Dornbracht, a German manufacturer of bath and kitchen fixtures is presenting a exhibit called "Global Street Food" which has removed street food carts from the streets and spotlighted them in a gallery on Dornbracht's campus.

I wish I had thought to photograph the many wonderful carts I had seen in my travels, but it never occurred to me then.

Here is grill from Kampala, Uganda.

And a cheese and sausage cart from Buenos Aires.

If you have photographs of interesting street food carts send (or point) them to me, and I'll post.

Take a look at these grills, they are very popular in Uruguay. They are made from halved steel drums. (They are called "medio tanque" because of that).

Although they aren't mobile, you run across lots of these on street corners on a nice day.

I've had wonderful experiences eating food from street vendors all over the world.

I've also had experiences with the world's healthcare system as a result, which include being taken off an airplane in a stretcher and spending the night in a German hospital.

There's no moral to this story. But I don't do that anymore.

Probably not what you had in mind for beautiful street vendor art, but I've always thought this was strangely useful
