GB Wire Stripper and Crimper

A tool I love is the GB SE-94 Automatic Wire Stripper and Crimper. The Kronus Wire Stripper, previously reviewed on Cool Tools, used to be the bane of my electrical-work existence. It would only properly set and strip the wire in one quick motion half of the time, and the other half I’d have to spend a few minutes fumbling around getting the clamp to hold on tight or the blade to cut deeply enough to strip the wire. Averaging out the two amounts of time, it really wasn’t any more effective than the classic manual strippers. When I got my hands on the SE-94, it was as though someone gave me a hammer after years of driving nails in with rocks. It can grab and strip a wire with just a simple clench of the fist. It’s also been extremely handy in those cramped-in-a-sink-cabinet-wiring-up-a-garbage-disposal situations, when I don’t have the time to comfortably mess around with an inconsistent tool to get it to do what it was designed to do.

I can attest to the usefulness and durability of this tool. It strips any wire or even cable I've thrown at it and does a clean job of it too. I haven't manually stripped something in years. Although the mechanism looks somewhat fragile, it has survived years of use and years of being thrown carelessly into toolboxes.

If only it could somehow crimp RJ45...

Definitely a great tool, strips a wider range of wire gauges more easily then any other stripper I've used. Everything from the smallest breadboard and electronics wires to house wiring works without breaking the wire on the small end or failing to strip on the large end. Highly recommended.

I should also mention that when I worked in an auto parts store a while ago, the local power company employees would come buy these from us. The tool seemed to spread through their employees by word of mouth, and we sold a mess of them. I bought one then, as I figured if all those sparkies liked them, they had to be worthwhile..

I use my teeth, because they don't take up as much space in my pockets.

Been doing it for over 30 years, never had my dentist complain once. And yes I still have my own teeth, two crowns on the molars but I don't use those teeth to strip wire anyway.

Can anyone confirm whether the GB GS-394 is the same|functionally identical tool?

I lollygagged, and ended up missing the availability of this item on Amazon.com - though by the picture, the two models are very similar except the handle on the GS-394 is a bit snazzier.

Of course, "very similar" can mean a gulf between old and new versions of products these days.

A cool tool is anything useful that is superior to comparable items. If you think this tool is inferior suggest a better one. You are welcome to insult a tool, but comments containing insults to individual people will be deleted. Corrections of fact are always welcomed, if stated politely. Recommendations of better tools are dearly wanted and may be elevated to the front page.
