Epipen LegBuddy

If you have serious anaphylactic allergies, Epipens are indispensable and probably the greatest (and simplest) medical contraption ever. Simplicity is key for this auto-injector. Just jab yourself with a dose of epinephrine, in the thigh, through your pants. The pen has saved my life several times.
However, as cool as they are, Epipens are hard to carry -- unless you have a purse. For guys, the "Leg Buddy" makes it so you don't forget your Epipens at home. Basically an ankle holster where you can store two Epipens -- out of sight but never out of mind.

You're way off the Cool Tools track. How many readers do you think require this product?

I just got stung and I can't breathe. Do you think I can get one overnighted to me?

So.... we're not going to talk about yesterday?
I'm not happy and will stop visiting for a couple of months.
(This looks like a good bit of kit, though.)

Strike the above, KK posted a comment on the original thread just after my comment. Yesterday was simply a mistake.

P. Brandt:
Actually quite a few people have allergies that could kill them, some not always avoidable - like bees. I actually think this is a clever and useful product for those who enjoy biking and hiking and getting away from urban areas.
As for 'requiring'... probably no one. Desiring? Maybe lots.

Back on track!! So much better than yesterday!
Really handy for those that need to carry an Epipen. I would like to see a leg holster that would hold other things like a phone, wallet keys, etc...

Question: Will the TSA let you take an Epipen through security?
Tim
Ken--check their website, tsa.gov; however, they usually let medicines in--including this one, I imagine.

zero for three...

Ok, so the Aviator bag was way off track, this I think is OK. There are a lot of things that I'm not personally affected by or interested in, but that doesn't mean it isn't a Cool Tool for someone.

Thanks for posting this. I am always looking for better ideas for my two sons to carry their epi pens with them.
I am still looking for one that has the space to also store few chewable allergy/antihistamine tablets for when there is non-lifethreatening allergic reactions.
Yes, I concur, you would be surprised if you knew exactly how many people not only do carry these, but *should* be carrying these everywhere and don't.

I'd bet the do-it -yourself tracheotomy tube would fit into this holster! I'm waiting for the Cool-Max t-shirt with defibrillator pads stitched in-that would be too cool!

Perhaps one would need this if one's laptop bag were overstuffed...
In all seriousness, I've carried one on the plane, and the TSA hasn't said boo.

I also disagree with Brandt.
Two of my close friends have life-threatening food allergies, and carry Epipens with them almost at all times. Maybe this leg strap isn't the best iteration of this type of product, but it's a start. I'd like to see some readers post others that they've tried.
Petro
Actually, this is just a neoprene leg pouch with a medical logo on it.
That logo doesn't keep you from putting other stuff in it. Like a folding knife or candy-bar style cellphone etc.
Remember "The street finds its own uses for things".

I think that there are a lot of people who know at least one person with a serious allergy to whom this could be of use. I know at least 4 people. Good pick, CoolTools!

Great post! They have the ASTHMA pal as well. My nephew will really appreciate one of these.

Having worn ankle holsters for extended periods of time, and months on end, I think I would prefer ot have another way to carry epi-pens on my person. Of course if one were to merely carry a Twinject device, they wouldn't need two Epi-pens to begin with.

Mailing the link to a friend who spent an awful night at the hospital after eating exactly one chip's worth of cilantro dip made on machines used to process peanuts. Hoping that having his pens ready for instant use like this might have helped him avoid that.

I agree with the folk who like this one. Not being unfortunate enough to need one of these, I would not buy one. But as someone who has had to keep them handy for others to use, I think it is a good alternative to either a fanny pack, purse or pocket.
For those who don't need one, count yourselves fortunate but don't bash those who might. Not everything that comes up on CT will appeal to everyone. It was a good post.

This seems pricey. I'm going to say the reverse of what Petro said and say that you could buy a neoprene knife sheath (scuba gear) for a lot less or even get on of those old cell phone holders from the dollar store
John
I'm another who doesn't need it, but I'm curious about two points:
1- How secure is it? If the victim were to (since I'm envisioning wilderness use) fall or have something fall on him, is there any chance that the pen will be destroyed?
2- Is opacity a problem? You mention not forgetting it, but I can guarantee that, if I needed one, I'd probably forget to refill the pocket after using one. Perhaps those whose lives are on the line are more careful, but I worry that it's not blatantly obvious how many of the things you're carrying.

I went to buy one of the LegBuddy after reading this post, and saw that now they sell this really cool neoprene belt and I ordered it. I LOVE IT. it's great. Soft, thin, no buckles. Great for when you are wearing short pants or doing things like hicking.
Thanks Cool Tools!!! now I have two great ways to carry my Epipens depending on what I am doing wearing or what mood I am in.
