Retractable Sharpie

When I saw these in a commercial during the Super Bowl I thought finally, an ad that actually influenced me to buy something.

Mine arrived yesterday from Staples and they are everything I'd hoped they would be. The same great Sharpie ink and point, but no more cap to hold on to or put down and lose or forget about.

What the great engineers at Sanford have done is create a minuscule hinged door that operates entirely within the instrument's barrel, opening and closing like a submarine's hatch.

These push-button sharpies are a great idea but hit-or-miss in the quality department. A pack of two is about $3 and many times one of them will be a dud right out of the package, with the mechanism refusing to retract.

The marker does not unscrew in half like a pen, so snapping it apart is required to unjam the mechanism.

Also, if you leave the tip exposed for more than 15 seconds without using it, it immediately starts to dry out.

These work great--when they work--which is not as often as they should for the price!
