Globalstar Satellite Phone

Cheap satellite phone service. $50/month for 120 minutes of satellite phone time throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia. It's a normal cell phone too, so you don't have to use your satellite minutes when you're in a city or near a cell tower. Oh, and it's also a 9.6kbit/sec modem, even in satellite mode.
The phone, a Qualcomm GSP-1600, lists at $650 new, but you can find them used for as little as $450. They are a favorite with back-country hikers.

Hi,
I'd like to receive some more information regarding the Globalstar Qualcomm GSP 1600 Satellite Phone, and....more specifically, about the cost of the service of $50.00 a month for 150 minutes air service. Is it true?.....because,till now...I've seen that airtime prices go much higher than that.....I'll really appreciate any comment or info regarding this, for I spend half of my time at the mountains abroad and was thinking to install a Hughes net satellite but, in second thoughts I'd prefer this option. Many thanks in advance for your time and kindness in providing me with some hints and/or advice, sincerely,
Al (Beto)
