Amazon's 800 number

On average I've ordered from Amazon once a week for the last eight years or so. Not just books, but power tools, toys, kitchen stuff, the whole lot. Given the volume of my orders I think their customer service is super great; it sets the gold standard for other companies. No other merchant online or offline has provided the ease and accuracy of ordering as Amazon does. Still, in my experience there are occasionally glitches that their email-bots can't deal with, usually entailing a minor billing snafu. In these rare cases you need Amazon.com's almost-secret real-person customer service telephone number. You won't find it on their website. I once got it by calling 800 directory assistance. In any case, they make it hard to find because a call costs Amazon more, so you should jot down these numbers for those special moments when only a human will do:

-- KK

1.866.216.1072 (Toll free, US and Canada)
1.206.266.2992 (Outside US and Canada)

And while I am at it, here's two more hard to find numbers:

e-Bay: 1.408.376.7400 and 1.800.322.9266 (Toll free US)
Pay Pal: 1.888.221.1161

In our experience, Amazon does not have "great" or even good customer service. They incorrectly charged an inactive account for an order, resulting in an overdraft charge of $35.00. When asked to refund the money since the error was theirs, they refused to do so.

thank you for posting the amazon info! i was trying to call them to update my cc # as i downloaded some stuff and didn't realize my old cc on file didn't work. even though i updated the cc info, they don't know that. and i already have my downloads.

i was going to KINDLY tell them of the new card so they could put the charge on my card. i DON'T have to do this because i already have the downloads and was doing this because it was the right thing to do. however, the frustration of trying to locate an 800# on their site just pissed me off. they deserve whatever they get if they're too stupid to post a #. way to go amazon. what a way to piss off the customers! morons!

Thank you for the info. I called and spoke with a very pleasant customer service person. I wanted information on a listed merchant that wouldn't come up in Google. The product was $8 cheaper than two other merchants and I couldn't understand why the co. wasn't listed. She said sometimes it's a private person, not a company, and the only way you can get the e-mail address is to buy the product. No thanks. Then I told her how difficult it was to find an 800 number for Amazon and that others on the web were dissatisfied also. She was amazed that there is no link on the website. She finally said to go to Help at the bottom of the page and type "contact" in the help search box. Then everything falls into place. She said she would post my comments to Amazon (I don't know where that is, but she can knock herself out). Thanks again.

Thanks for the number. Now my complain about Amazon is they use those Indian reps who don't know anything about anything, and with accent impossible to understand. I am pissed off more now! Still, thanks for the number again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've just about had it with Amazon. Get stuff I didn't order, charged for it, they don't correct the errors. Hadn't been able to find anyone to talk to who could speak English that I could understand. Got nothing done so far. Maybe if I can get a real person on the line that I can converse with, I can get this straightened out. Maybe not considering it's Amazon. My fingers are crossed.

Appreciate the phone number post.... I had a nightmare in ordering an electric bike on Amazon... I had, a long time ago, let my neighbor order an Item through them using my computer as he did not have one.... he opened an account in his name and he had to use my email address.....when I tried to open my own account they tell me that I already have an account open.... so they told me I had to open still another account under my name again..... which I did .... I then ordered an electric bike..... sometime later I get an email from them telling me that my credit card did not go through... Thanks to you I was able to call the toll free number for their customer service dept. Located in Costa Rica ..... the guy did not speak English very well.... I had to go through my problem many times (very frustrating). I think he solved the problem but I am not sure... as he apparently got confused somehow with my wife's account.... (What a mess)
